PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He started every game his rookie season and was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team and All-Big 12 Conference Second Team. Now Oscar Tshiebwe is ‘stepping away’ from West Virginia basketball.

According to the school, the potential NBA player is dealing with personal reasons as to why he has paused his career with the Mountaineers.

“Oscar has our full support, and we certainly wish him the best during this time,” head coach Bob Huggins said in a statement.

An all-state player at Kennedy Catholic HS in Mercer County, Tshiebwe is off to a slower start this season, averaging 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds in 10 games.

West Virginia is scheduled to play at Oklahoma Saturday at 4p.
