Callie Evans and Audrianna (Audri) Williams of Monroe High School in Albany, Georgia called in to chat with V103 in Atlanta's Big Tigger on The Morning Culture and give all the details behind their viral back to school remix to Jack Harlow’s “WHAT’S POPPIN.”
According to Audri, the concept of back to school raps, “started off 4 years ago…it was my first year teaching, the following year Callie joined me at Monroe High School and I was like please help join me on these raps." And yes, in case you we’re wondering the ladies are responsible for writing their own lyrics, and no cap, they got bars.
Callie jumped in saying, “being that we’re teachers, we already knew what students like, so we put in some language that they we’re going to relate to… to get there attention, so that they’d be excited about going to school.”
Tig had some complimentary words for the rapping teacher duo, “I think that the delivery, the flow, the lyrical content - amazing. Then you put together an amazing video with the cheer team… I see you!”
Evans and Williams shared that things have been “crazy” since their remix has gone viral. “Like we said we’ve been doing it for 3-4 years… but this one I don’t know if it was the video… the whole production of it all… a lot of time and money went into it, so to see it blow up like this is amazing.”
