R. Kelly reportedly placed on 'suicide watch' after conviction

Kelly's lawyer did not say whether or not the singer had actually expressed any wishes to harm himself

According to reports, singer R. Kelly had been placed on suicide watch following his conviction in New York of racketeering in September.

Kelly’s lawyer Steve Greenberg tells the Chicago Tribune that it is routine practice for recent federal inmates to be monitored in such a way and that the provision has since been lifted.

While Greenberg did not say whether or not Kelly had actually expressed any wishes to harm himself, he did mention that the singer will be rebuilding his defense team in preparation for his August 2022 Chicago cases -- where Kelly has been charged with child pornography and obstruction -- and believes he and his partner Michael Leonard will remain as lead counsel.
