Maple Days are here! Join Lyman Orchards in Middlefield this Sunday 9:30am for a maple sugar and pancake party at its restaurant 1741 Pub and Grill. The restaurant will have a delicious pancake brunch menu, plus the Environmental Learning Center of Connecticut will be onsite showcasing maple sugaring demonstrations to families in its traveling sugarhouse.
The Stanley-Whitman House in Farmington is hosting a special Maple Day this Saturday Noon to 3pm. It’s a fun-filled, educational event where families can learn about the art of maple sugaring and see how the process was done during colonial times. Historic interpreter Dennis Picard will demonstrate how to tap a maple tree for its sap and then evaporate the sap over an open fire as part of the sugaring process. Dennis will share anecdotes of this time honored tradition by indigenous peoples of the Eastern Algonquin Peoples of the lower Connecticut River Valley and then later by English colonists in New England.
