Sunday is Portuguese Day in Danbury! It begins with a flag raising at 8:15am in John Perry Soccer Field, Memorial Drive. At 9am a Holy Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 149 Deer Hill Avenue. 10:15am a parade steps off at the Church and ends at Portuguese Square (Liberty Street and Town Hill Avenue). 12:30pm the PICNIC begins at the Portuguese Cultural Center, 65 Sand Pit Road. The Newington Children’s Theatre Company presents a special fundraiser production in memory of Regan Martin Saturday and Sunday with “Miss Nelson Is Missing.” This single-act musical starring 34 children ages 8 to 16 from Newington, Wethersfield, West Hartford, Hartford, and Wallingford, plus another 23 Newington children ages 5 to 8 in the ensemble. Showtimes are 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. Regan was an NCTC actress for several years until her unexpected passing at age 12 in 2024. Later that year her family established a fund in her honor to make children’s theatre, which Regan loved, available to other children, as a lasting tribute to her kindness. The Town of Cromwell Farmers Market takes place Friday evenings from 4–7pm at Riverport Park, now through September 4. I-Park, a 450-acre nature preserve in East Haddam, will be participating in Connecticut Trails Day on Saturday 9:30am to 3:30pm, at 428 Hopyard Road, East Haddam, CT. This will mark I-Park’s first Open Trails Day of our 25th anniversary season, featuring live music, a guided hike, crafting and a garden educational session. This is a free, family‑friendly event.
