The National Recording Registry added 25 recordings this year, bringing the total titles in the registry to 575. They select recordings they deem worthy of preservation based on their cultural, historical and/or aesthetic importance in the nation's recorded sound heritage.

In addition to Celebration by Kool & The Gang being added, some other titles of note include:
Kermit the Frog - Rainbow Connection
Connie Smith - Once A Day
LaBelle - Lady Marmalade

Also added were albums by Jackson Browne, Pat Metheny, & Janet Jackson.

It's not just music either. The call of Roger Maris' 61st home run as well as the 1941 Christmas Eve broadcast from Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Winston Churchill were included.
