HARTFORD, CONN (WTIC Radio)-The long-time efforts of John E. Rogers to preserve Black Culture has found a home in the Hartford Public Library system.

Rogers, considered the Godfather of Black History in Connecticut, died in 1982.

The vast collection includes historical artifacts, artwork, articles, photographs and personal histories on the Black and African American experience.

He  was a consultant in Black History at the University of Hartford and a lecturer for regional educational institutions.

It took more than two moving vans to transport the collection--appraised as the largest collection of Black History in New England.
It'll eventually be displayed at the North-West school on Albany Avenue--itself on the Register of National Historic Places.
