AAA: Relief likely coming at the gas pump

Gas Pump

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut motorists could soon be in for some relief at the gas pump, according to AAA.

The auto club says the statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline stood at $3.17 Monday, a penny cheaper than a week ago, but two cents higher than a month ago, and nearly a dollar more expensive than the same date last year.

Crude oil prices have been dropping lately and that could translate into lower prices at the pump.

“Crude oil prices saw not only a dramatic drop on the week, but the price per barrel is at the cheapest in three months,” said Amy Parmenter, spokesperson for AAA in Greater Hartford. “If this downward trend continues and less expensive prices are sustained, Americans can expect to see relief at the pump in the near future.”

Gasoline prices typically drop as the busy summer driving season comes to a close. However, geopolitical tensions or tropical weather can cause price spikes.
