BT calls for Yankees to move on from Aaron Boone after World Series performance
The Yankees came just three wins short of a World Series title, but Brandon Tierney says there should be a change at manager.
The Yanks can pick up Aaron Boone’s option in 2025, but if BT were in Hal Steinbrenner’s shoes, he would step in and order a change in the dugout after watching Boone’s performance in the Fall Classic.
“If your baseball team continuously is substandard, and the metrics back that up defensively and on the bases, does your manager deserve some blame? My answer is absolutely yes,” BT said.
“His inability to manage the big spots was beyond alarming...there needs to be a complete infusion of new culture, new expectation...it’s just non-negotiable. If you’re a young kid and not jostling or not backing up in the right spot, you’re either not playing for me, going to the minors until you fix it, or we’ll have to have a conversation with ownership, because that’s not gonna fly here.”
BT says Boone’s mistakes date back to game one, when the Yanks had a lead with one out to go before serving up a walk-off grand slam with Nestor Cortes on the mound. And the pitching mistakes continued by not allowing Gerrit Cole time to collect himself during the nightmare fifth inning in game five.
“You got a pitcher out there who, in game one...I don’t care what anybody says, Aaron Boone colossally mismanaged game one,” BT said. “He pulled his ace after 88 pitches...last night, 50 feet from your spot in the dugout, you’re watching this circus unfold, watching Gerrit Cole huffing and puffing, this flushed face come over him...the manager should have had Matt Blake go out to just let him get a minute and a half to catch his breath.
“For Aaron Boone to not go out there...that is unforgivable.”
After the World Series loss, coupled with years of frustration, BT says the time is right to make a change and alter the culture within the Yankees organization to get them over the top.
“I would not bring Aaron Boone back,” BT said. “He would not be my manager in 2025. I would change everything.”
