Gio: Yankees will never beat good teams in playoffs if Aaron Judge 'is a zero'
The Yankees are on the brink of elimination after another lifeless effort on offense, highlighted by the continued postseason struggles of their captain and MVP.
Aaron Judge endured another hitless night in Monday’s game three defeat, striking out once to bring his total to seven in the World Series so far. Judge has one single in the series despite coming up in big spots multiple times, and Gio says the failures of Judge are simply killing the Bombers’ chances of a championship.
“The Yankees cannot compete with good teams if Aaron Judge can’t hit,” Gio said.
“That’s really what the Yankees - since Aaron Judge has been the focal point since 2017 - If he doesn’t hit like he doesn’t hit in the postseason, they can’t beat teams like the Astros…or the Dodgers in 2024. They can’t keep up.”
The Yankee offense has consistently bottomed out in recent playoffs past, but this year, they rode clutch home runs by Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton to a pennant. Now that they’re facing their toughest test yet in the Dodgers, the Yanks need all their stars to show up, and right now, their brightest one has been a dud.
“To watch them be completely overwhelmed by Walker Buehler and the Dodgers pitching…they’re just sitting there looking at fastballs. Just really, really frustrating,” Gio said.
“Soto has been good, Stanton has been good, but Judge is a zero. This Yankee team cannot beat a good team with Judge being a zero.”
