Keith: Don't be so sure that Brian Cashman will leave Yankees after current contract expires

Keith spent some time with Brian Cashman at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night, in the wake of SNY’s Andy Martino telling BT and Sal that he believes the long-time GM could move on after his current contract expires.

Keith doesn’t believe that will happen.

“I jokingly called him the eternal Yankees GM. I talked to Cashman about a few things, and I keep it a buck with him,” Keith said. “Cashman is done when he says he is done…the Yankees, they’re a global brand, but they’re a small mom and pop brand. They’re run by the same people…you think you’re moving any of those people out of their seats because of a contract? He’ll get another contract.”

Cashman signed a contract extension that takes him through the 2026 season, which would be just short of three decades in his role as the GM. Keith still doesn’t believe Cashman would be ready to end his tenure by then, and believes the only way he leaves is by his own choice.

“What if the Yankees don’t win a World Series in this time? You think he’s going out without that?” Keith said. “He’s been vocal about wanting the best players here to get that opportunity. If his contract is another three years, and Aaron Judge’s is another six, and they haven’t won a World Series yet…I don’t see there being any type of Brian Cashman being done after this deal.”
