BT: Aaron Rodgers not playing any preseason snaps would be 'ludicrous'

Aaron Rodgers isn’t expected to play in the preseason, per Robert Saleh, although the Jets quarterback reacted with a sense of surprise to that news.

In all likelihood, Rodgers won’t be seen in the preseason, as the Jets play it carefully with their 40-year-old quarterback coming off of Achilles surgery, but BT says the team would be making a big mistake.

“The notion of Aaron Rodgers not playing a single snap in the preseason is ludicrous,” BT said. “I would absolutely play Aaron Rodgers.”

Sal countered that Rodgers is getting his reps in training camp, but BT doesn’t buy that it allows him to get ready for real game speed in what is an all-in season for Gang Green, and Rodgers has only played a handful of snaps in game action since the end of his last season with the Packers.

“It’s not the same. You can’t replicate that speed in practice, because you’re not gonna get hit in practice,” BT said. “I think he wants to play. I think he wants to get out there. I think the Jets are terrified.

“That is not how you operate.”

Of course, after last season’s Achilles nightmare, there is reluctance to throw the veteran out there in a game where the result means nothing, especially when the preseason is spent juggling playing time, and the offensive line’s top unit won’t be out there for long. But BT says Rodgers needs to shake off the rust in what is a pivotal season for the organization.

“I would play him,” BT said. “I get it, it’s a very dangerous juggle, but to me, at some point, common sense has to prevail.”
