Sal & Jerry agree: Aaron Judge is best player of their lifetime
Aaron Judge blasted his 32nd home run on Tuesday night in a losing effort to the Reds, as the superstar currently leads the league in all Triple Crown categories just weeks before the All-Star break.
As the Yankee captain continues to mash like the best hitter in baseball, Sal has joined Jerry in his declaration that Judge is the best player in their lifetime.
“Why would anybody pitch to him? I just don’t understand,” Sal said. “He can play center, right, left, and play them all well. He is athletic and hits for power. He is legitimately the best baseball player I’ve ever seen who is clean.
“I know a lot of people would go Griffey. I would go Bonds…Judge is a better defensive player than Barry Bonds, and Bonds, as much as I love him, he’s tainted. Judge has the power and presence of McGwire as far as the home run goes. He hits for average and plays defense. And by the way, he’s the best leader and captain you can have.”
Judge has been batting over .400 over his last 51 games with a wRC+ that is nearly 200 percent higher than league average. He is on a pace that rivals his historic 2022 season, even after a rough April for his standards. Jerry, who made his Judge declaration a week ago, is glad to have Sal in his corner when it comes to Judge’s standing among the greatest of his lifetime.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a hotter streak from an athlete in my life,” Jerry said.
“I don’t watch Ohtani, aside from the highlights. And I would like to watch the Dodgers more for sure…the difference for me with Judge, while what Ohtani does in the field is once every five days, Judge - when healthy - is out there every night…this guy plays center field every day, and is still doing what he does at the plate.”
