Amazon To Hire Thousands In Metro Detroit As Part of 100,000 Job Expansion Nationally

(WWJ) Amazon is looking to hire 2,000 workers in the Detroit area as part of the retail giant's overall plan to hire 100,000 workers across the United States. 

Pay starts at $15 an hour. 

Hiring will take place at Amazon's five fulfillment centers and four delivery facilities in Michigan, with plans to open one more this year.

•      In Detroit, there are more than 2,000 jobs available in addition to the more than 13,500 Amazon jobs already existing in the state of Michigan.

•      Amazon has a starting wage of $15 per hour in Detroit with industry-leading benefits starting on day one of employment. Many jobs start at $18 and hour and above. 

•      Amazon has already opened 75 new fulfillment, sortation centers, and delivery stations this year and hundreds of additional locations are opening by the end of the year to serve customers during what is expected to be their biggest peak season ever.

Amazon says Since 2010 they've created more than 13,500 jobs in Michigan and invested more than $2.5 billion across the state, including infrastructure and compensation. These investments have contributed an additional $2.1 billion to the Michigan economy and have helped create 10,000 indirect jobs on top of Amazon’s direct hires – from jobs in construction and logistics to professional services. In addition, more than 42,000 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Michigan are selling to customers in Amazon’s store, creating thousands of additional jobs across the state.
