Woman Pulled From Rough Waters Of Lake St. Clair

GROSSE POINTE FARMS (WWJ) - An investigation is under way after a woman was pulled from the choppy waters of Lake St. Clair.

Grosse Pointe Farms police say the woman was located in the water near Moran and Lake Shore Drive, just west of Pier Park, around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The U.S. Coast Guard also responded to the scene, but the woman had already been removed from the water by the time they arrived.

It wasn't immediately clear how the woman ended up in the water or how long she may have been there. She was taken to the hospital, though her current condition is unknown.

Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Charlie Langton said conditions on the lake were extremely choppy. High winds were also reported along the shoreline.

"Crazy water," he said. "I've been around here a long time and this is extremely high waves. The water is definitely coming in off the lake onto the shore."

The eastbound side of Lake Shore Drive was closed for several hours as police were investigating the scene, but has since reopened to traffic.
