21-year-old driver stopped for Lodge Freeway road closure dies after SUV fails to stop, smashes into multiple vehicles
DETROIT (WWJ) - One driver is dead on M-10 in Detroit after troopers say an SUV didn't stop and rear-ended four other vehicles that were stopped for a freeway closure from an earlier crash.
Michigan State Police said reports of a serious crash involving four vehicles was reported around 7:35 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the Lodge Freeway near Outer Driver.
Traffic was at a standstill due to an earlier crash that disabled a semi truck and caused 200 gallons of fuel to spill out onto the roadway near 8 Mile. Police shutdown M-10 at 7 Mile to investigation and clear the scene when the second crash was reported.

Their preliminary investigation found that a 34-year-old driver behind the wheel of a Chevy SUV failed to stop for the vehicles stalled due to the road closure and slammed into the back of a Dodge Avenger.
The force of the crash slammed the Avenger into a Toyota and the Toyota was pushed into a Ford.
The 21-year-old driver of the Avenger was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, MSP added.
MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said the crash was "very preventable."
"Make sure you leave enough room to stop and pay attention while driving," he added. "And please wear your seatbelt. Unfortunately, the driver of the Avenger had his buckled behind his back. If you wear it properly It will save your life."
The freeway has since reopened from both incidents, Shaw said.
