DETROIT (WWJ) -- A liquor store in Southwest Detroit was the target of a destructive smash-and-grab, early Thursday morning.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reported there was a heavy police presence at the scene, in the area of McGraw and Addison, where a large pickup truck was used break through the front of the building.
Police said three men wearing masks were seen inside the Premier Express Market, at around 6 a.m.
"They apparently rammed their Chevy Avalanche into the liquor store into the side and then they got inside the store," Langton reported.
Police said the crooks took the cash register and some booze, and then fled the area, leaving the Chevy at the scene.
Langton said it's believed the robbers used a stick on the truck's accelerator, to avoid being inside the truck when it crashed.
There was significant damage done to much the Chevy and the liquor store.
Later Thursday morning, police were still searching for the three suspects.
There is no description of the men at this time, as the investigation continues.
