3 people killed and 2 more critically injured in Detroit house fire; 2 dogs rescued

DETROIT (WWJ) -- An early morning house fire in Detroit has left three people dead and two others hospitalized.

The Detroit Fire Department responded to the scene on Monday at a two-story brick home at the intersection of 7 Mile Rd. and Wildemere, near Woodward Avenue.

Officials confirmed that three people were killed. Two more who were taken to a local hospital for treatment were said to be in critical condition.

One of the people who died was a teenage girl, officials said, although there are no further details about the victims at this time.

Reporting from the scene, WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton said two dogs were rescued from the home, and are now in the custody of Animal Control. One appeared to have an injury or problem with its leg, but the dogs otherwise seemed to be OK.

The cause of the fire has been not been determined as the investigation continues.

This came just a day after a 7-year old boy was killed in a fire at a home on Rutherford Street on Detroit's west side. That fire also remains under investigation.
