50 state troopers, K9, tactical bike team, emergency support, uniformed and undercover cops will all be downtown with massive crowds expected for Sunday's Lions playoff game

"So enjoy yourselves, be nice," police said. "Getting arrested is not the way to spend Sunday night!"

DETROT (WWJ) -- With hyped up football fans expected to converge on downtown Detroit by the tens of thousands this weekend, police say they're well prepared.

Officials with the Michigan State Police Second District say they will have around 50 troopers in the area of Ford Field for this Sunday's Detroit Lions divisional playoff game vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

MSP said this will include canines, the emergency support team, tactical bike team and the bomb squad.

Speaking at a Friday news briefing, Detroit Police Deputy Chief Franklin Hayes said there were no incidents of disorderly conduct, nor were there any arrests during last week's super wild card playoff against Los Angeles.

They're hoping to keep it that way with an increased deployment of officers similar to their summer deployment numbers to handle the 65,000 ticketed Lions fans and the 200,000 people expected downtown, much like last week.

But Hayes said the the challenge this week is the Red Wings will host the Tampa Bay Lightning at Little Caesars Arena before the Lions game.

"We ask that you pack your patience. And also with a lot of folks, traffic. We have some traffic plans that are a bit unique," Hayes told WWJ's Ryan Marshall and other reporters.

"We will be changing some of the roadways to get people in for egress," he explained. "We will turn some of the two way streets into one, getting everyone in and turning them outbound and turning them the other way or the other direction to get everyone out."

There will be some DPD officers fully uniformed while others will be undercover to make sure that everybody is remaining safe and having a good time, according to Hayes.

"There will be a LOT of traffic!," MSP said, in a tweet. "From pedestrian traffic, cars, public transportation and also there will be additional traffic for LCA! Plan accordingly and expect delays. While we will have troopers helping with traffic flow, sometimes there is just nowhere to go!"

"So, enjoy yourselves, be nice and we will try to get you in and out...as fast as possible. Also, be nice once inside as well. Getting arrested is not the way to spend Sunday night!"
