ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway in Rochester Hills into a massive fire at a storage business overnight.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reports the fire broke out at around 9 p.m. Tuesday, and burned for over ten hours at Sto-Away Storage, on John R Rd. near E. Avon Rd.
About 50 firefighters responded to the scene, as flames were shooting out of the roof of the building.
No injuries were reported, but one of the business's owners, Anthony Calliea, said around 80 storage units were destroyed. Calliea told Langton this is a self-storage facility, so it's hard to say what may have burned up inside units.
"We don't know what the contents are in each individual unit," Calliea said. "It couldn't been anything. We have businesses... all kinds of different storage opportunities here."
Calliea said the fire broke out in one unit, caught the insulation on fire, and the flames spread to the rest of the building.
The fire is out, but firefighters remained on the scene working to put out some hot spots later Wednesday morning.
At this time, it's unclear if foul play may have been involved.
"We don't know what the cause is yet; investigators haven't been able to get in there," Calliea said. "We're just glad that nobody was hurt and everybody's OK."
