86-year-old woman killed after struck twice by snowplow in Fraser shopping center parking lot

FRASER (WWJ) - An elderly woman's trip to the hair salon on Tuesday ended in tragedy after she was struck and killed by a snowplow in a Fraser shopping center parking lot.

As reported by WDIV, witnesses to the crash said the victim, identified as an 86-year-old woman, had just finished getting her hair done at Salon Inspire on 15 Mile and Hayes in Fraser and was walking to her vehicle in the parking lot when a truck from a nearby landscaping business whipped in.

The driver of the truck immediately began plowing snow and salting the parking lot, officials said, when he reversed the vehicle at a fast pace and struck the woman twice.

“That is when I screamed,” a stylist from the salon told WDIV. “I went, 'that is a human!' I ran out the door and was the first one to her.”

Employees at the salon rushed to the woman, who they described as independent and beloved, and brought out towels, as well as a blanket, to aid her.

Fraser police were immediately called out to the scene, but witnesses said the driver in the truck didn't get out right away.

When he exited the vehicle, witnesses claim he said, "Please don't be dead."

Police arrived at the scene and arrested the man. Fraser police said they were still waiting on results of a toxicology report as of Wednesday.

The incident remains under investigation at this time with charges expected to be filed, investigators said.
