Alcohol sales set to begin at Crisler Center, Yost Ice Arena this weekend; Big House sales still to be determined

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) — At long last, University of Michigan sports fans will be able to enjoy an adult beverage while watching their Wolverines.

School officials announced Thursday the University of Michigan Athletics Department has been approved for state liquor licenses and alcohol sales are set to begin at events at Crisler Center and Yost Ice Arena.

The first event with alcohol sales at Crisler Center will be a wrestling meet against Iowa Friday night, followed by a men's basketball game against Rutgers at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The first ice hockey game with alcohol sales at Yost will be Friday, Feb. 9 against rival Michigan State at 7 p.m.

Other upcoming events at Crisler Center with alcohol sales include women's gymnastics on Feb. 4 (3:45 p.m. vs. MSU) and women's basketball on Feb. 6 (7 p.m. vs. Nebraska).

Back in October the Board of Regents approved alcohol sales in select U-M athletic facilities, after lawmakers in Lansing enacted legislation last summer permitting alcohol sales at university athletic competitions across the state.

School officials say all patrons will be required to show ID at every alcohol purchase at the venues, and each transaction will have a limit of two alcoholic beverages per legal drinking age guest.

The school will consider selling alcohol during football games at Michigan Stadium after "reviewing data and the experiences at the other two venues."
