LIVONIA (WWJ) - A bedbug infestation at a senior living center has been taken care of for the most part, Livonia city leaders said.
McNamara Towers Building Two had a pest control company addressing the bedbugs Friday afternoon.
Officials say six of the seven apartments found to have the pests have been cleaned. One couple has been uncooperative with the city to deal with the problem, and the city may have to “take action to terminate their lease.”
WWJ has learned that the bedbugs have reportedly been an issue for a couple months. At least one apartment on all five floors of Building Two have them.
Livonia City Council President Jim Jolly said he had received emails earlier in the week about bedbugs in McNamara Towers, which is located near Seven Mile and Middlebelt Roads.
I recently received a couple emails from residents regarding this issue,” Jolly said. “The first came in on this last Thursday. Prior to that I had no notice that there was an issue. I forwarded one of the emails to the mayor’s staff and asked about the situation. They reported that there was an isolated issue that was being dealt with with a contractor.”
Officials said the pest control company has been working with the city to control the problem for several weeks.
