Boil Water Advisory for Macomb County's New Haven and Lenox Township due to water main break

New Haven Community Schools were closed Wednesday due to no water

(WWJ) A couple of Macomb County communities are under a Boil Water Advisory, and a school district is closed, because of a water main break.

The water main break is along 24 Mile Rd., just west of Gratiot Ave. in Chesterfield Twp.

Officials said a DTE Energy subcontractor was doing some work in that area on Tuesday when they hit the 36-inch main, causing it to break.

The Great Lakes Water Authority said crews hoped on Wednesday to isolate the break, so the area can be dug up, and repairs can begin.

Reporting from the scene, WWJ's Luke Sloan said crews were working to stabilize a power pole, which was slowing things down a bit.

The break has caused a Boil Water Advisory for the Village of New Haven and Lenox Township, for residents who live along Gratiot, north of 30 Mile Rd. The advisory took effect immediately, until further notice.

Officials said the advisory would likely remain in effect for the next two or three days, but it should be lifted for the weekend.

What to do/not to do during a Boil Water Advisory

New Haven Community Schools were closed for the day because officials said several buildings in the district were without water service.

Chesterfield Township did not issued a boil water advisory, but residents were advised that they could notice a drop in pressure.

Any disruption to water pressures should be reported to your local municipality’s Department of Public Works.
