DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Institute of Arts is looking to take home the title of "Best Art Museum" in the country for the second year in a row as USA Today opens up voting for their 10Best Awards.
The DIA took to social media to announce that they were back in the running on Tuesday, Jan. 30 -- and they need your help.
"Hey art lovers! We have fantastic news: the Detroit Institute of Arts is back in the race for the title of 'Best Art Museum' in the 2024 USA TODAY 10Best Awards," museum officials wrote on Facebook. "We're aiming for a back-to-back win. The DIA clinched victory last year, and now we're gearing up for a repeat performance."
Museum officials said fans, guests and supports can click here to cast their vote. As of 8 a.m. on Jan. 31, the DIA was ranked #2 out of 20 museums in the running.
Each person is eligible to vote once per day through Sunday, Feb. 18.
The Detroit-based museum earned the publication's top award in 2023 over the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the Getty Center in L.A. the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) in Maryland and more.
The nominees were selected by a panel of experts from USA TODAY and then voted on by readers.
"Housed within a Beaux Arts building, the Detroit Institute of Arts maintains a collection of some 65,000 works – among the largest and most comprehensive in the United States," USA TODAY said of the DIA. "Visitors can explore human creativity from across the globe as they explore more than 100 galleries, including the Center for African American Art, one of the first collections devoted to African American art at a major museum."
After their 2023 win, the DIA said they were "beyond thrilled and honored" to be selected in the 10Best Readers' Choice travel awards and thanked readers for recognizing the museum, its staff and the community that they serve.
"Thank you to everyone who voted for us and who supports our mission of inspiring and enriching people's lives through art," DIA officials said on social media. "We couldn't have achieved this recognition without your enthusiasm and love for the DIA."
