Livonia man ordered to trial for attempted murder in shooting of 2 people during fight outside Garden City's Rockstarz Bar

GARDEN CITY (WWJ) -- A Livonia man has been ordered to trial on attempted murder charges for shooting two people outside the Rockstarz bar on New Year's Day.

A the end of a preliminary hearing that wrapped Monday, a Garden City District Court judge judge ruled there is enough evidence to bind 30-year old Brian Lindsey over for trial.

Along with two counts of attempted murder, Lindsay is also facing assault and weapons charges in connection with the shooting early in the morning of Jan. 1.

Prosecutors said Lindsay shot 55-year-old Dennis Kewin and his son, 22-year-old Brendan Kewin, during a fight over a parking spot outside the bar, on Ford Rd. in Garden City. Both Kewins were taken to a hospital, where the older man remains.

Lindsey's defense attorney claims the shooting was in self-defense after his client was dragged out of his Jeep by Dennis Kewin and attacked.

On the stand during the hearing, Brendan Kewin said he doesn't remember his father doing that, nor really anything at all about what happened — other than getting shot.

Under Michigan law, in order to shoot someone, a CPL holder (and Lindsey is one) must "honestly and reasonably" believe that the use of deadly force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to yourself or to another person.

Lindsay's bond was set at $200,000. The prosecution, however, had requested $500,000 bond.
