Man charged after allegedly attempting to assault judge with his car in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Prosecutors have charged a man that allegedly attempted to attack a judge with his vehicle.

31-year-old Jamal Terrel Colbert, of Detroit, has been charged by Prosecutor Kym Worthy with felonious assault with a motor vehicle after allegedly using his vehicle to try to hit 36th District Court Judge Kenneth King.

Authorities say that on Dec. 3, at approximately 5:37 p.m., Colbert was driving recklessly in the area of M-39 and Oakwood Boulevard in Detroit and King honked his horn.

Colbert allegedly attempted to attack King while he was driving, using his vehicle as a weapon “multiple times,” authorities said.

King was able to get away and called police with Colbert’s information, police said.

Colbert left the scene and was arrested on Dec. 6. He has been charged with three counts of felonious assault and one count of reckless driving.

Colbert was arraigned in 36th District Court where he was given a $10,000/10% bond with a GPS tether. He will be in court next for his probable cause conference, which is scheduled for Dec. 15. Colbert also has a preliminary examination scheduled for Dec. 27.
