(WWJ) - A Hillsdale man has pleaded guilty after threatening the Hillsdale County Sheriff.
50-year-old Chad Young, of Hillsdale, pled guilty to Assault on a Public Officer, according to a press release from the Michigan Attorney General’s Office.
“The plea accompanies a sentencing agreement stipulating a 3-year term of probation, the first nine months to be served in the county jail,” the press release said.
Young was charged with one count of Making a False Report or Threat of Terrorism in April. Young threatened Hillsdale County Sheriff Scott B. Hodshire “after a complaint filed by Young did not result in criminal charges,” according to the press release.
“Young threatened to ‘gut’ the Sheriff for his actions in relation to Young’s case,” the press release said.
“We entrust our public safety officials to make certain decisions for our communities. Residents are welcome to disagree with those decisions, but responding to disagreements with death threats is a serious crime,” Nessel said. “When promises of violence are made against elected officials, my department’s Hate Crimes and Domestic Terrorism unit will not hesitate to bring appropriate charges.”
Young’s probation also requires substance abuse and mental health evaluations. He is also prohibited from contacting the Sheriff or his deputies, according to the press release.
Young is scheduled to be sentenced on March 11.
