NORTHVILLE (WWJ) - Excessive water is causing major issues across Metro Detroit freeways, but its also forcing some residents in Northville out of their homes and others to restrict water usage after a "massive" water main break occurred Friday morning.
The City of Northville confirmed a 24-inch main transmission line operated by the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) ruptured around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 26 in the area of Baseline between Novi and Oakland Roads.
Officials initially called the break "severe" before an update listed it as "massive."
City services were dispatched to isolate break and determine the next steps for repairs. Residents were advised to use their water sparingly as the break is causing low water pressure in Northville and Northville Township.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reported live from the scene where water was breaking up through the concrete and rushing down the road. The running water even broke out a basement window in a nearby home and flooded the basement.
"They had a wedding this weekend and there was a wedding dress in the basement that they managed to save," Campbell said.
There is no timeframe on when repairs will be completed. There is no Boil Water Advisory issued for residents at this time.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned to WWJ LIVE for the latest updates.
