Metro Detroit mom finds hope, and healing, after tragic loss of her baby boy

(WWJ) Every October, families across the country pause to honor babies lost too soon — whether through miscarriage, stillbirth, or newborn death.

The National Institutes of Health estimates one in four women experience pregnancy loss in their lifetime.

This is true for Commerce Township resident Joanna Torongo — remembering her son, Landon, who was stillborn in 2021 — now celebrating the recent birth of her daughter, Lainey.

Mom says that Lainey has become part of her healing journey, and she hopes her openness encourages others to speak up and seek help, sharing her personal story during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

Health experts say it’s critical that families have both medical, and emotional support, during these traumatic times.

On Monday, Joanna was reunited with the DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital team, who supported her through a new pregnancy.

She spoke with WWJ's Tim Pamplin and other reporters, accompanied by her husband and little Lainey.
