Monroe County teens caught breaking into vape shop twice, stashing stolen goods in vacant home

(WWJ) — A group of Monroe County teens are in trouble with the law after allegedly breaking into a vape shop — not once, but twice.

An 18-year-old Temperance man is awaiting arraignment on two counts of breaking and one count of entering a business and breaking and entering an unoccupied residence. Authorities are also seeking charges against two other teen boys from Temperance, ages 16 and 17.

The charges stem from a pair of alleged break-ins at the Himalaya Vape Store on Jackman Road, near Sterns Road in Bedford Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the store on Dec. 6 after an alarm went off. When they showed up, they discovered the store had been broken into and merchandise was stolen.

This past Sunday deputies were called to the same store for another break-in and learned more items had been stolen. Officials didn’t say what items were taken in either incident or how much they were worth.

Detectives investigated both incidents and learned the suspects had illegally entered a vacant home on Sterns, where they were storing the stolen merchandise.

The three suspects were eventually taken into custody and the stolen merchandise was returned to the owner of the Himalaya Vape Store.

The 18-year-old suspect’s name has not been released, pending arraignment. The juvenile suspects have been released to their guardians, pending a charging decision by the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
