Tickets for NFC Championship watch party at Ford Field sold out within hours

DETROIT (WWJ) - Fans hoping to grab a seat to this weekend's Lions watch party at Ford Field will have to find somewhere else to catch the big game after tickets sold out within hours on Monday.

After the Lions' 31-23 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the divisional round, the team announced it will be selling tickets for a watch party at Ford Field as the Lions find themselves on the road against the San Francisco 49ers in their first NFC championship game in 32 years.

Tickets went on sale for Lions Loyal members on Monday starting at 10 a.m. General public tickets were available for purchase beginning at 3 p.m.

Up to ten tickets can be purchased while supplies last -- and they didn't last long.

WWJ's Cassandra Llamas went on the site around 7 p.m. on Monday and found every seat grayed out with the message, "please adjust your search." The seating options you selected aren't available due to the ticket quantity or filter you applied."

And that was just for one ticket.

WWJ sports reporter Chris Fillar said more than 20,000 fans are expected to pack the building after tickets for the watch party sold out in mere hours.

"Now, of course, many bought the $20 tickets with the intent to resell them," Fillar said. "Some screenshots were being posted on social media with sellers asking for hundreds of dollars per seat. However, if you look on StubHub and Ticketmaster, most are offered for around $30 to $90 if you missed out."

According to the Lions’ website, proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Detroit Lions Foundation for youth and high school sports.

Ford Field will open its doors 90 minutes before kickoff, at 5 p.m., for fans. The game will be shown on all video boards and display screens inside the stadium.

Seating for the watch party began in the 100 sections with reserved seating in the lower bowl.

Organizers said the watch party will also feature performances from the team's cheerleaders and drumline.
