SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are reminding drivers of the law regarding gun possession after an arrest along the Lodge Freeway over the weekend.
At around 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, MSP said a sergeant on patrol on the southbound Lodge in Southfield pulled a driver over for speeding at 92 mph in a 70 mph zone, along with some unspecified "equipment violations."
Police said the driver, a 27-year-old Ohio man, was hesitant to retrieve his vehicle paperwork, and when questioned said that his passenger had a gun, and he had one as well, in the glovebox.
MSP said the driver did not have a driver’s license on him, and no one in the car was in possession of a CPL. When police looked into it, they found that the driver had had his license revoked, and did no have a CPL.
The driver was arrested and taken to jail, pending a prosecutor review of the case.
The passenger, who it turned out did have a CPL but just didn't have it with him, was was cited and released.
“Another great job finding a illegally possessed firearm," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, in a statement. “If you decide to carry a firearms make sure you follow all aspects of the law. This includes having your permit with you and declaring it to a police officer if stopped.”
The name of the man arrested was not released.
