There's a shortage of doughnuts at Dunkin'

Some states just aren’t running on Dunkin’ right now. The popular chain is out of doughnuts at some of its U.S. locations due to a temporary supply shortage.

Stores across Nebraska and New Mexico haven't had the breakfast staple on their shelves in nearly a week.

The Associated Press reported on Jan. 10 that stores in Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island in Nebraska all had no doughnuts in their cases Thursday and Friday and put up signs on their doors and drive-thru kiosks informing customers that the pastries were unavailable "due to a manufacturing error."

Similar signs appeared at stores in Arizona, which also urged visitors to consider buying the doughnut-hole-sized Munchkins instead, TODAY reported.

Bryce Bares, a franchise owner in Nebraska, told the Omaha World-Herald that some stores received shipments from suppliers that were not up to standard, and that he refused to serve "subpar doughnuts."

Jack D'Amato, a spokesperson for Inspire Brands, said there was an issue with doughnuts from a single supplier that impacted stores in Nebraska and other states. He did not name the other states or elaborate on the issue.

About 4% of Dunkin's more than 9,500 U.S. were initially impacted. D'Amato told TODAY on Monday that only 2% of locations were still impacted, and the company was actively working to restock those locations.

It's not clear how long the shortage may last.

The issue comes after Dunkin' rebranded in 2018 to focus more on coffee and other beverages.
