DETROIT (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after thieves smashed a U-Haul truck into a storefront on Detroit's west side.
The crash happened early Monday, along Fenkell near 8 Mile Rd. Hubbell.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reported the perpetrators stole the key to the U=Haul from a lockbox, and then crashed the vehicle into the building — which houses a U-Haul rental, check cashing store, and a chicken joint.
No details about the incident were immediately confirmed by police, but the owner of the building told Langton the thieves were trying to target the ATM, but the money is taken out overnight.
Crews were on the scene later in the morning trying to get the truck out of the front of the building.
A similar clean-up was underway about three miles away, were another U-Haul was backed into a building at 8 Mile Rd. and Wyoming. It's not yet clear if anything was stolen from that location, or if these two crimes are related.
There have been no arrests, and there is no information about any suspects at this time.
