The Grand Prix is racing back into Detroit in 2024, and officials say now is the time to buy tickets

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Grand Prix will be hitting the streets of Detroit May 31-June 2 of 2024, and tickets go on sale today.

Officials said the 2023 Detroit Grand Prix had a record-setting number of people in attendance. Between sold-out grandstands for the Sunday races, as well as people watching in one of the free access areas, the race attracted approximately 150,000 people to Detroit over the weekend.

“The unique open access for fans will continue in 2024 and next summer’s event will raise the bar even higher with the three-day festival injecting excitement and an economic boost to Downtown Detroit,” officials said.

Bud Denker, Chairman of the Grand Prix, said that the city saw over $100 million in spending at local businesses, like bars and hotels, over just the weekend, with Belle Isle bringing in about $60 million.

Single-day and multi-day tickets can be purchased, with prices starting at $20 for Friday and increasing from there.

Michael Montri, President of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, said that the return of the Grand Prix to Downtown Detroit had a lot of excitement behind it.

“There was a special energy and excitement throughout the city this year as we brought the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear back to the Streets of Downtown Detroit for the first time since the early 90s,” Montri said. “We can’t wait to build off that momentum in 2024 with some great viewing options for our fans. We encourage everyone to get their tickets early while the best seats are still available and, of course, Grand Prix tickets make great gift ideas and stocking stuffers for the holidays.”

This year will offer fans the chance to not only reserve a spot in one of the grandstands, but the Grand Prix can also be seen from one of three rooftop deck viewing areas. The general admission tickets will allow attendees to see the race and take in the Detroit skyline from the top of Center Garage, Franklin Street Garage and Port Atwater Garage. The purchase of a rooftop ticket allows fans access to all three locations, officials said.

The Grand Prix is also introducing tailgating ticket packages this year. In a press release, officials say that “fans will be able to purchase a tailgate pass for Franklin Garage, overlooking the unique two-sided Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Pit Lane.” The tailgate package includes four general admission tickets for the rooftop locations and a “special parking pass” for each vehicle.

“Beyond the great racing, fans will enjoy entertainment and family-friendly fun all weekend long at the Grand Prix. Event attendees will have access to the popular Riverwalk while interactive displays, games, food, music and more will be featured in Hart Plaza, along Jefferson Avenue and down Woodward Avenue to Campus Martius Park and Cadillac Square,” the press release said.

Tickets can be purchased starting at 8 a.m. on Dec. 11 at www.DetroitGP.com/Tickets or by calling the ticket hotline at 866-464-PRIX (866-464-7749).
