(WWJ) A Port Huron man is facing more than a dozen criminal charges after an alleged crime spree and police chase through multiple Macomb County communities.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, 52-year-old Thomas Tackett was first confronted by police on Monday while he was drinking water from a hose in the backyard of a home in Harrison Township.
Officials said Tackett is accused of trying to break into multiple homes, stealing a gun, being shot at by a homeowner, and driving onto a golf course during a wild police pursuit.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reports this happened, "All within a 40-minute time frame that started in Harrison Township, went to St. Clair Shores, then to Clinton Township where he allegedly drove the wrong way on I-94, to finally being arrested after a short foot chase back in Harrison Township."
Tackett has been charged with 13 counts, including carjacking, home invasion, malicious destruction of property, assault with a dangerous weapon, and fleeing and eluding.
Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the investigation and chase leading up to Tackett's arrest involved multiple communities.
"This coordination...all working together, you know, neighboring jurisdictions — whether it's the sheriff's office, Clinton Township, St. Clair Shores," Wickersham. "Our dispatch center dispatching for multiple agencies."
Wickersham said Tackett was on parole at this time of his arrest, and has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1995.
What was this all about? Wickersham said his investigators don't have any information on that just yet.
"He's not talking to us. Obviously, he's invoked his Fifth Amendment right," the sheriff said. "So, we can only speculate."
Tackett faces up to life in prison if convicted a charged in this case.
