Chicago Police Department increases officer man-hours ahead of Rittenhouse verdict

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO)— The Chicago Police Department has increased officer man-hours this week as the world awaits a verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial in Kenosha.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 President John Catanzara gave a quick YouTube video update Friday to officers on the current standing with vaccine mandates, around 30 officers not in compliance are now on unpaid leave.

Catanzara himself will begin the week with his own case before the police board.

“The mayor has decided that she wanted a circus. She’s made it very clear that I’m not going to win this case, that I will never be in a police uniform again. I guess we shall see,” Catanzara said.

He also alerted officers to some scheduling details but said that things may change.

“I don’t know what Kenosha and the Rittenberg decision comes out if that changes anything. Who knows,” he said.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that a law enforcement source said things have changed and that CPD officers have now received notice that of two regular days scheduled off each week, one will be cancelled with no specified end date to that order.
