An unlikely item is at the center of a fatal stabbing that occurred over the weekend in Denver, Colo., according to reports. Apparently, a bottle of hot sauce kicked off deadly events.
According to the Denver Police Department, 19-year-old George Vigil was arrested for the Sunday homicide of an adult male. Denver Sheriff’s Department records show that Vigil was charged with second degree murder and that he was in court Monday. His bond is set at $200,000.
Police said officers responded to the scene at 5:21 p.m. Sunday when a stabbing was reported. At the residence in the 2300 block of North Federal Boulevard, they found the victim suffering from sharp force injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
“The preliminary findings of the investigation reveal that the suspect and victim were known to each other and had an argument that escalated into a physical altercation and stabbing,” said the Denver Police Department.
FOX31 reported that it obtained a probable cause statement, that revealed Vigil told officers someone in the house wanted to make a sandwich and asked where the hot sauce was. Vigil said he replied that it was in a bedroom upstairs.
After that, an alleged feud broke out between family members over the bottle of hot sauce. During this argument, the victim allegedly challenged Vigil to a fight. Per the probable cause statement, Vigil is known to carry a switchblade-type knife. When he allegedly swung his arm at the victim, the victim fell to the ground.
“Investigators identified George Vigil as the suspect, placed him under arrest, and he is currently being held for Investigation of Second-Degree Murder,” said police. A final determination of charges will be made by the Denver District Attorney’s Office and the Medical Examiner is expected to release the victim’s identity and manner of death.
