No new 'South Park' tonight after episode pulled in wake of Kirk shooting

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creators of the long running show “South Park” on Comedy Central, announced Wednesday that there won’t be a new episode of the cartoon as planned this week.

“Apparently, when you do everything at the last minute, sometimes you don’t get it done,” said a Sept. 17 message from the show creators posted on Facebook, the same day the new episode was set to air. “This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and ‘South Park’ fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!”

Parker and Stone inked a five-year, $1.5 billion deal with Comedy Central parent company Paramount earlier this year, making them the highest paid showrunners in Hollywood and bringing the controversial but beloved show to Paramount+ globally. As of this year the show is in its 27th season, and it caused a stir right off the bat with its first episode’s depictions of Satan, Jesus, President Donald Trump and Paramount itself.

Another ripped-from-the-headlines concept Parker and Stone incorporated into show this season was making one of its main characters, Eric Cartman, into a figure that greatly resembled conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead in front of a crowd in Utah this week. Before his death, Kirk even commented on the depiction.

“Okay everybody, the ‘South Park’ episode just dropped, and honestly it is hilarious,” he said. “I mean part of it was kind of… whatever, typical humor. But it was hilarious.”

The episode Kirk was referring to, titled “Got a Nut”, was pulled from broadcast after Kirk’s murder. However, it is still available streaming on Paramount+.

According to Parker and Stone’s message, new episodes of “South Park” will now air on the following Wednesday dates: Sept. 24, Oct. 15, Oct. 29, Nov. 12, Nov. 26 and Dec. 10. They did not mention Kirk in the message.
