Melania Trump has been largely absent on her husband's campaign trail and those around her say they don't expect that to change.
While the former first lady has been seen attending recent fundraisers for her husband and other Republicans, campaigning is simply not on her to-do list.
"It's just not her comfort space and I think it's a real loss because first ladies are typically helpful on the campaign trail with women, with undecideds, and she has a very compelling story and she's good at telling it," one source told The Hill. "I respect her for doing something she doesn't want to do but you have to look at it as a detriment to her husband's campaign."
A second source added: "The campaign doesn't ask her to be out there because they know she dislikes it. She's a very private person."
Part of the reason Melania is staying out of the spotlight is because she wants to avoid talking about her husband's legal battles, according to the report.
"If she's not on the campaign trail now that her husband is in the middle of a criminal trial, I don't think she's going to do it at all," the first source told The Hill, adding that Melania "doesn't want to be in a position where she's asked about it."
Melania's penchant for privacy is one of the things voters admire most about her, former President Donald Trump has previously said when asked why she's not seen in public more.
That makes complete sense to Kate Andersen Brower, author of "First Women: The Grace and Power of America's Modern First Ladies." Brower told The Hill that first ladies tend to showcase the more human side of a president -- but that doesn't work for Trump.
"He doesn't need to be humanized because that's not what his voters want," she said. "They don't want to see the softer side of Donald Trump."
Brower went on to call Melania "the most private lady in American history," and said that Trump's supporters are "fine with her being in the shadows."
