Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - Former two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 35.
Davis was found deceased at his home on Monday morning by police in Davie, Florida, which is just outside Fort Lauderdale. According to a police statement obtained by ESPN:
"This morning, Davie Police Officers responded to 6051 SW 178th Avenue in reference to a medical call. Officers were called to the residence by the house assistant, who found the homeowner deceased. We can confirm that the deceased individual is Vontae Davis, age 35. Preliminary information suggests that foul play is not involved."
Davis spent a brief moment in Western New York as part of the Buffalo Bills, playing two games and registering one tackle. He will be famously known for his retirement from football during halftime of the Bills' 2018 home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.
After being a first-round pick (25th overall) of the Dolphins of the 2009 NFL Draft, Davis went on to play 121 career games split between Miami, the Indianapolis Colts and the Bills, where he tallied a combined 395 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, 22 interceptions and one touchdown. He was a Pro Bowler in back-to-back years with the Colts in 2014 and 2015.
Davis it the younger brother of tight end Vernon Davis, who was a first-round pick (sixth overall) of the 49ers in the 2006 NFL Draft and played 14 seasons in the league with San Francisco, the Denver Broncos and Washington Commanders franchise.
