Louisiana will stay in 'Phase 2' another 3 weeks

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards today announced that phase two of easing coronavirus pandemic restrictions will continues for at least three more weeks, through August 28.

"I will sign the new order on Thursday." said Edwards. "It will go into effect Friday, August 7."

Louisiana has been in phase two since early June, after hospitalizations and daily new reported cases fell significantly during phase one. But by mid-June, case numbers began rising and more patients had to go to the hospital to deal with COVID-19. While hospitalizations have been falling five out of the last seven days, there are currently 954 more people in the hospital for COVID-19 treatment than there were on June 14, the day the state reported 542 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, the lowest number during phase two.

"The current mitigation measures are working," Gov. Edwards reassured. "It's been about the last week or eight or nine days we've really started seeing the numbers improve."
