Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore picked a good time to open the takeaway floodgates. He notched his first interruption of the season last game, and shoulda-coulda-woulda had a second. The challenge will be much greater this Sunday though.
A trip to Tampa awaits, and even though 5-2 New Orleans won the opener over the Buccaneers, they are 6-2 and hold a ½ game lead in the division. Its big stakes football that has a bit of bad blood to it.
Back in 2017 Tampa WR Mike Evans put a brutal cheap shot on Lattimore, who was in his rookie season. The corner sure hasn’t forgotten it.
"It is what it is. I just want to go out there and compete, and win; dominate.”
Lattimore has dominated for the most part. Evans numbers against the Saints look like…
2017 – 19 targets, 6 receptions for 68 yards
2018 – 13 targets, 11 receptions for 233 yards and 1 TD
2019 - 11 targets, 4 receptions for 69 yards
In week one this year, Evans was held to just one catch for 2 yards, but he did score a touchdown.
“I just got to keep that going. I can't get big headed about it. I still got to go in there like it's my first game ever playing him,” said Lattimore.
Does Lattimore get a little more fired up for this match-up against Evans? It would be hard not to, right?
"No,” Lattimore initially responded quickly. “I mean, I guess. But, no. I guess though. It was a disrespectful thing that he did. But, I get fired up with everybody.”
