
One person is dead and two others are wounded after three separate overnight shootings in New Orleans East.
The first, the city's 60th homicide of 2023, happened around 10 p.m. Monday on on Chef Menteur Highway near Downman Road. Officers say the victim was shot multiple times. An EMS crew pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Police have identified the victim only as a 63-year-old man.
About an hour later, NOPD officers responded to a shooting on Francis Drive near Ransom Street. An NOPD spokesperson said the victim in that case, a woman, suffered a body wound and was taken to the hospital.
The third shooting happened around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday on Tara Drive near Lake Forest Boulevard. Police say the victim, a man, suffered a body wound. An EMS crew took the victim to the hospital.
These incidents bring the total of shootings Monday night into Tuesday morning to a total of four in a span nine hours. The fourth shooting happened around 8 p.m. Monday in the Seventh Ward, leaving a woman wounded.
