Wetter, cooler forecast on tap this week

Flash Flood Threat
National Weather Service

The good news: we'll beat the heat this Father's Day. The bad news: we'll see a good bit of rain not only on Sunday but also over the next few days.

Heavy downpours are possible on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Sunday's forecast calls for scattered showers and storms with highs around 89°. On Monday, those storms will be better defined and larger, bringing the possibility of localized street flooding to the New Orleans Metro Area. Those storms will also bring breezier, cooler conditions with high temperatures expected to stay below the 80° mark through most of next week.

The National Weather Service says the southern part of the state is at a slight risk of flash flooding through 7 a.m. Monday. The NWS says rainfall rates could exceed three inches per hour, causing ponding in low lying and poor drainage areas.

Rain chances will stick around for the next seven days, with those rain chances hovering between 40 and 80 percent.
