(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Neighbors and preservationists in Edgewater who have fought against the planned demolition of a historic church can breathe a sigh of relief.
Chicago Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) has announced the owner of Epworth United Methodist Church in the 5200 block of North Kenmore Avenue is withdrawing a demolition permit application.
It comes after Osterman endorsed landmark status for the 130-year-old structure.
On his Facebook page, Osterman said he'll be working with the Commission on Chicago Landmarks to ensure that Epworth will not be demolished.
The alderman has said he hopes the church building can be reused.
