(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Three men in their 20s were killed and seven other people were wounded in an attack at a block party in Gary early Tuesday, according to police.

Gary Mayor Jerome Price’s cousin was one of the men killed in the attack, officials announced Wednesday.

Officers were called to a home in the 1900 block of Missouri Street around 12:45 a.m., police said in a statement.

Three of the victims died at the scene: Price’s cousin Marquise Hall, 26, from Lafayette, Ind., Ashanti Brown, 20, from Olympia Fields and Laurance Magnum, 25, from Merrillville, Ind., according to the Lake County Coroners Office.

“Our family is heartbroken and outraged at this loss. Obviously, this hits close to home. However, we’re also angry and frustrated at the fact we continue to lose Gary residents to needless violence, including young people gunned down before they even reach adulthood,” Price said in a statement. “I never stop thinking about the victims and their families and the incredible losses these senseless deaths leave.”

Seven other gunshot victims were either driven or taken by ambulance to hospitals.

No one was reported in custody.
