“When I first wrote it, I knew it was a big song, but I didn’t know how it was going to become a big song” Chase said in a recent interview with Audacy’s Coop. “I wanted it to be special, I wanted it to be something different than I’ve ever done before.

“When Brian [Kelley] and Tyler [Hubbard] and I talked about doing it together, that just naturally happened… Having them on it makes it more special to me.”

While he may be sitting at the top with his music, Chase says winning “gold” isn’t something he is used to. Half kidding, of course, Chase went on to share the details of a painful loss he caused at a recent “Beer Olympics” competition with his friends.

“Last year, I singlehandedly had the lead going into the last slip-n-slide into the flip cup for the win and I lost it, I completely screwed it up” Chase recalled.

“This year, I had a big lead, a bigger lead going into the slip-n-slide. I’m singing ‘We Are The Champions’ as I’m slidin’ down, when all of a sudden I get down to the end of the slide and Ryan, my buddy, just flies by me and flips it [the cup] in one try… I completely screwed it up for my team again this year and I have no excuses.”

“I’ve accepted the fact that second is where I belong,” Chase said jokingly. “I can take it. It humbles me, it puts me in my place” he laughed.

While he may not be our first pick for Beer Olympics, Chase is definitely binging his A game as he readies his next album. Set on binging his focus back to the basics, Chase will work with producer Jay Joyce to provide straightforward songs without overcomplicating his sound.

“The greatest thing is I’m just going back to writing songs with me and a guitar again,” Chase said. “I’m not trying to build tracks, I’m not trying to hear all that while I’m singing songs. I’m trying to focus on lyrics and melodies mostly, and singing in the right key.”

Chase will likely give fans a preview to that new music as he hits the road this fall with his headlining tour. Immediately following, Rice will join Kane Brown for the second half of his Blessed And Free Tour, beginning January 2022.
