It’s no secret Chris Janson is all about the “Good Vibes,” when it comes to his music, but it turns out the inspiration to make others smile regularly came from discouraging times when he was a kid.

Janson recently spoke with KSON’s John & Tammy in the Morning and shared he didn’t always get the encouragement he needed to chase his dream of being in music. One teacher in particular told Chris he was “stupid” for not approaching music in a common way.

“When I was a kid, I was in music class and I flunked in music,” he said. “This is going to blow you away — the music teacher told me I was ‘stupid.’ She used the word, ‘stupid,’ because I couldn’t read music and I still can’t read music to this day.”

“Something I don’t like in general is when people make rules for other people just because they can. Everybody has their own way of doing things in life. Whether you write songs different, whether you sing different, whether you look, talk , walk, act, wherever you come from different — everybody’s different, man.”

The experience clearly had an impact on Chris, and the now very successful Country musician is making it his mission to ensure kids can always turn to him for the encouragement they need — no matter how different they are.

”We should be putting creative effort behind these youngsters and really promoting them in the right way,” he expressed. “Not telling them how they can’t do something when they’re impressionable because it’s really depressing for a kid.”

He continued, “Part of my whole mission in music… like, with the song, ‘Good Vibes,’ I make sure there’s a mission statement behind it. It’s more than just music, there’s a mission statement,” he said. “You have the opportunity to change someone’s life with a smile and happiness and no pun intended — but with ‘Good Vibes,’ — and treating people so nice.”
